Apps built from inside the work.

8pence designs and builds focused apps for the people who keep places and teams running: grounds crews, custodial and housekeeping teams, and youth soccer coaches. Every app is tested in real work before it ships.

The apps

Three apps, each with one job.

Each app is its own product with its own address. They share a way of working: simple for the people doing the work, and clear for the people who manage it.

  • For grounds crewsIn use with a university crew

    Groundskeeping

Crews mark finished work on a map of the grounds, and managers see what is done, what is due and who did it.

    • Assign work from a phone and hear back when it is done
    • Report a problem with a photo, pinned where it is
    • A shared shed computer for crew members without phones
    • Trees
    • Bushes
    • Lawn
    • Leaves
    • Snow
    • Trash
    • Sprinklers

    Floorkeeping

The same idea indoors: rooms on a floor plan, a checklist for each one, and a clear view of which rooms are clean.

    • Rooms laid out floor by floor, ready to tap when they are done
    • A cleaning checklist for every room
    • Built on the same foundation as Groundskeeping

How we work

Every app starts on the job.

  1. Start with a real problem

Groundskeeping began on a university grounds crew that needed to know which beds had been weeded and when each would be due again. LockedIn began with a youth soccer team that needed playing time to be fair.

  2. Build it with the people who use it

Crews, managers and coaches use early versions in their real work. Their requests and feedback shape every release.

  3. Widen it once it holds up

Each app starts with a small group of real users and opens to more people once it has held up in their daily work.

Groundskeeping and Floorkeeping are built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
Any device
Phones in the field, tablets on the sideline, and a shared computer in the shed.
